CBD: A helpful treatment for many disorders

CBD oil is a non-psychoactive compound found in cannabis. Unlike THC, CBD does not produce a high or intoxicated feeling. CBD oil is produced by extracting CBD from the cannabis plant, then diluting it with a carrier oil such as coconut or hemp seed oil. CBD oil has a variety of health benefits, including reducing anxiety, relieving pain, and improving sleep. CBD oil has been shown to reduce anxiety in people with social anxiety disorder and other conditions. In a 2015 study, 24 people with social anxiety disorder received either 600 milligrams (mg) of CBD oil or a placebo before giving a public speech. The CBD oil group showed significantly less anxiety, discomfort, and cognitive impairment during their speech than the placebo group (8). CBD oil has also been shown to relieve pain. A 2017 study found that CBD reducing pain and inflammation in rats with arthritis (9). CBD oil has also been shown to help reduce chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting in cancer patients (10). In addition to its anti-anxiety and pain-relieving effects, CBD oil has also been shown to improve sleep. A small 2010 study found that CBD improved sleep quality in people with insomnia (11). CBD oil may also help reduce sleepiness during the day in people with narcolepsy, a sleep disorder that causes daytime sleepiness (12). CBD oil is generally well-tolerated, and side effects are rare. However, some people may experience dry mouth, lightheadedness, and drowsiness. CBD oil should be used with caution if you are taking medications that are broken down by the liver.
